Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame and critical acclaim. Koyoharu Gotouge's tale debuted in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2016 and quickly made an impact, developing a loud and vocal fanbase. In 2019, the series would jump to anime, increasing its popularity further and turning Demon Slayer into an instantly recognizable global franchise. The recent announcement that the next part of the anime's story would be a trilogy of movies excited fans massively. But what do we know about those films?
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who lives during Japan's Taishō era. Alas, demons are a constant threat in this world. Tanjiro learns this when he returns home to discover demons have killed his family. The only survivor of the massacre is his sister, Nezuko, as the demons decided to transform her into one of them rather than killing her. Unlike other demons, Nezuko retains a shred of her humanity, giving Tanjiro hope that she can return to her previous state.
The History Of Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer Has Established Itself As A Blockbuster Franchise On Big And Small Screens Alike
Soon after this horrible event, Tanjiro meets Giyu Tomioka, a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. After a tense encounter, Giyu sends Tanjiro to Sakonji Urokodaki, his former teacher, so Tanjiro can train and become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. However, Tanjiro soon finds that the life of a Demon Slayer isn't easy as he's thrown into many dangerous situations and soon finds himself on a collision course with Muzan Kibutsuji, the progenitor of all demons and the man responsible for slaying Tanjiro's family.
The Demon Slayer manga consists of 12 story arcs. The most recent anime series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc, covered the manga's tenth arc. Thankfully, fans who wanted to know what the future held for the anime didn't need to wait long, as the movie trilogy was announced right after the final episode of the season aired on June 30th, 2024.

Based on the film's name, it's clear that this trilogy will adapt the manga's Final Battle Arc. Consisting of two smaller arcs, the Infinity Castle Arc and the Sunrise Countdown Arc, these arcs see the Demon Slayers launch an all-out assault against the demons and Muzan Kibutsuji, hoping to end them once and for all.

This war will see them fight through Muzan's stronghold, the warped and endlessly twisting Infinity Castle. Alas, this battle won't be easy, and all the Demon Slayers will have to fight harder than they ever have if they want to come out on top. And, as the war rages on, Tanjiro will make several surprising discoveries about himself.
Because the Demon Slayer website notes that these films will "be coming exclusively to theaters," many fans presume that this trilogy will tell the end of the Demon Slayer story and mark the end of the Demon Slayer anime franchise. This means that, unlike the Mugen Train movie, which was followed by a TV adaptation of the same arc, the Infinity Castle movie won't be followed by a fifth anime season, meaning the only way to experience the story is to see the film.

Japan Reveals Its Biggest Anime Merchandise Winners for 2024 in Official Ranking
Major Japanese cross-border e-commerce service Buyee reveals its top-selling anime, J-pop, mobile game and tokusatsu merch for 2024 to date.
The Demon Slayer website has revealed some of the movie's staff. The most notable announcement is that Haruo Sotozaki, the director of both the TV series and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, will be reprising his role for the upcoming films, meaning that fans can expect the new movies to retain the TV anime's general vibe and atmosphere. Doubly so because the site also states that Akira Matsushima will be reprising his role as character designer and animation director for the film. Similarly, the site confirms that Ufotable, the studio that animated the series and previous movie, will also handle the animation for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc.
There is currently no news about who will be voicing the characters in the film. However, as this movie is a direct continuation of the TV anime and most of the behind-the-scenes staff seem to be returning, it seems logical to presume that most of the previous voice cast will reprise their roles. Anime Expo hosted a Demon Slayer panel a few days after the announcement. Natsuki Hanae (who plays Tanjiro) and Takahiro Sakurai (who plays Giyu Tomioka) were present for the panel. A video message from Toshihiko Seki (Muzan Kibutsuji's voice actor) was also shown, and Seki ended this segment by introducing the teaser trailer.
While this trailer featured no new information, it would be weird to have current cast members introduce it if they were not returning. Similarly, when Natsuki Hanae was interviewed by the AnimeTV YouTube channel, he seemed to imply that he was returning for the movie. When asked if he wanted to send a message to his fans, he said:
"We are finally entering the Infinity Castle and as Tanjiro, I'm really pumped to finally be able to fight against Muzan. Everyone, please cheer for him and join forces with Tanjiro to defeat Kibutsuji Muzan together!
I will do my best and put my heart into playing the role of Tanjiro in Japan. So please everyone, send your power to Japan. Thank you very much."
So, if these theories are correct and the previous cast reprise their roles, fans can expect the cast list to look something like this:
Character | Japanese Voice Actor |
Tanjiro Kamado | Natsuki Hanae |
Nezuko Kamado | Akari Kitō |
Inosuke Hashibira | Yoshitsugu Matsuoka |
Zenitsu Agatsuma | Hiro Shimono |
Muzan Kibutsuji | Toshihiko Seki |
Mitsuri Kanroji | Kana Hanazawa |
Gyomei Himejima | Tomokazu Sugita |
Obanai Iguro | Ken'ichi Suzumura |
Muichiro Tokito | Kengo Kawanishi |
Sanemi Shinazugawa | Tomokazu Seki |
Giyu Tomioka | Takahiro Sakurai |
Shinobu Kocho | Saori Hayami |
Tamayo | Maaya Sakamoto |
When Will The Films Come Out, And Where Can They Be Watched?
While little about the release is confirmed, current information suggests good things for American Demon Slayer fans. Firstly, the official Demon Slayer site notes that the movies will be: "coming exclusively to theaters globally as an epic trilogy of films!" It also says that Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the films outside Asia.
In a press release, Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini said:
"Demon Slayer has been a phenomenal franchise, and we at Crunchyroll are delighted to have been a part of it from the beginning. Crunchyroll is thrilled to be able to bring this trilogy of films to fans, on the big screen, and it promises to be one of the truly epic and consequential pop cultural events of our time when it hits theaters."

10 Times Demon Slayer Teased The Infinity Castle Arc
For eagle-eyed viewers of Tanjiro’s and Nezuko’s journey, previous episodes of Demon Slayer teased the exciting Infinity Castle Arc.
Because of this, it is safe to presume that the Demon Slayer movies will get widespread theatrical releases in America. It's easy to see why Crunchyroll would do this, as 2020's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train had a very successful American release, snatching the record for the biggest opening for a foreign-language film in American box office history. So it seems likely that both Sony and Crunchyroll would want to repeat that feat with the new movies, doubly so because these films mark the highly-anticipated end of the Demon Slayer story, meaning fans will be desperate to see them as soon as they release. Also, because Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have the films' distribution rights, it's logical to presume that the new movies will join the rest of Demon Slayer on the streaming platform after its theatrical run.

The lack of an official release date hasn't stopped fans from speculating. Many have predicted that the first may arrive on screens in late 2025, as since the Demon Slayer anime launched in 2019, the franchise hasn't missed a year. Plus, it would make sense for the team to try and release the first film before the hype dies down. However, this is far from a guarantee, and until the production team makes an official statement, fans will have to wait and see.
The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle trilogy will be one of the most hyped and highly-anticipated modern anime events. Demon Slayer has cemented itself as a modern classic, so fans will be desperate to learn how the story ends and if Tanjiro Kamado can finally defeat Muzan Kibutsuji. While little is known about the movies' specifics, based on how the team has handled the series and Mugen Train, fans are in for a treat when the films eventually launch.
